BREIF DESCRIPTION OF THE PROGRAM:
Chamundi Hill, Mysuru
Located about 4 kms from the heart of the City of Mysuru in Karnataka, India, stands 3489 feet above sea level. It is home to the Temple of Sri Chamundeshwari, a famous landmark surrounded by natural beauty.
The temple, dedicated to Goddess Chamundi, is at the hill's summit. Visitors can climb an ancient stone stairway with 1,008 steps to reach the top. Along the way, you'll find a large statue of Nandi, carved from a single black granite block. Statue of Mahishasura draws attention from visitors.
Varuna Lake, Mysuru Taluk
Varuna Lake, about 10 kms from Mysuru city center, is a peaceful spot known for its natural beauty, making it perfect for bird-watching and nature walks.
Managed by Outback Adventures, Varuna Lake is a popular destination for water sports. Activities include Kayaking, Jet skiing, Speed boating, Banana rides, Water trampolining and others.
Sri Sidilu Mallikarjuna Swamy Temple, Bettadapura
Bettadapura, meaning "Land of Hills," is home to the Sidilu Mallikarjuna Swamy Temple, a historic shrine dedicated to Lord Shiva. Located 80 km from Mysuru, the temple sits atop a hill and offers a mix of adventure, natural beauty, and history.
Reaching the temple involves a trek of about 3,108 steps, which takes roughly 1 hour and 40 minutes, offering a moderate challenge for adventure seekers.
Golden Temple, Bylakuppe near Kushalnagar
The Golden Temple near Kushalnagar is a popular tourist destination and a significant cultural and spiritual site.
It's part of a big Tibetan Buddhist center called the Namdroling Monastery. The temple is known for its peaceful atmosphere, stunning architecture, and cultural importance.
Bheemanakindi, Near Kanchanahalli, Malavalli Taluk
"The Bheemana Kindi is a huge natural rock arch near Halaguru. It's about 100’ tall, 100’ long, and 50’ wide! You can only see it from the top of a hill. This place is around 80 Kms from Mysuru.
People tell a story about how the arch was made. They say Bheema of Mahabharatha, a very strong hero, hit the cliff with his big stick to help his mother Kunthi. But scientists think it was created by nature over a long time.
The Bheemana Kindi is a very cool place to visit!". This is a great place for Trekkers. Also it’s an amazing Arch in India which is at top of the Hill.
Somanathapura, near T. Narasipur, Mysuru District
The Somanathapura Temple is a masterpiece of Hoysala architecture, renowned for its intricate carvings and sculptures. This 13th-century temple is dedicated to Lord Vishnu, showcasing his various forms. Recognized for its outstanding architectural and historical significance, the temple holds a prestigious UNESCO World Heritage Site status.
Overall, this “Mystic Trails of Mysuru”trek is planned such a way that, it is not only an easy to moderate exciting treks / walks / adventures everyday but also allows the participants / trekkers to enjoy the beauty of nature andimmerse themselves in the rich cultural heritage, serene landscapes, and its surroundings have to offer, creating a perfect balance of adventure, relaxation, and exploration.
DAY WISE SCHEDULE:
19.02.2025 - Day-1
- Reporting at Government Youth Hostel, Gangothri Layout, Mysuru between 3.00 pm and 05.00 pm.
20.02.2025 - Day-2
- Trek to Chamundi Hills and after this, Adventures Water Sports activities at Varuna Lake, Varuna Village, Mysuru Taluk.
21.02.2025 - Day-3
- Trek to Bheemana Kindi in Kanchanahalli Village, Halaguru, Malavalli Taluk. After the Trek, visit to Somanathapura Hoysala Temple near Talakadu.
22.02.2025 - Day-4
- Trek to Sri Sidilu Mallikarjuna Swamy Hill in Bettadapura, Periyapatna Taluk. After the Trek, visit to Golden Temple at Bylakuppe, near Kushalnagar.
23.02.2025 - Day-5
- Group disperse after the Breakfast.
WHO CAN PARTICIPATE?
The members of YHAI can participate in this program. The minimum age for joining this expedition is 15 years.
HOW TO REACH THE BASE CAMP:
The base camp for the State Level Trekking Program organized by YHAI Gangothri Unit is located at Government Youth Hostel Mysuru, in Gangothri Layout, next to Saraswathipuram, Mysuru. Here’s how participants can reach it:
1. From Mysuru Railway Station:
The base camp is approximately 3 kilometers away. You can take a city bus or hire an auto-rickshaw for a quick and cost-effective ride.
2. From KSRTC Bus Stand (Mysuru):
The base camp is about 4 kilometers from the KSRTC Bus Stand. Similar to the railway station, city buses and auto-rickshaws are readily available for transport.
3. By Public Transport:
Mysuru has a well-connected public transport system, including frequent city buses and auto-rickshaws (pre-paid) that can take you to Gangothri Layout. These are affordable and convenient options.
4. By Private Vehicle or Taxi:
For those traveling by private vehicle or app-based taxi services, Gangothri Layout is a well-known area in Mysuru, and navigation apps can guide you easily to the Government Youth Hostel.
5. From Other Cities:
Mysuru is a prominent city in Karnataka, well-connected by KSRTC buses and trains from major cities and towns in the state. Upon arrival, follow the above instructions to reach the base camp.
Participants and trekkers can rest assured that reaching the base camp is simple and hassle-free, thanks to Mysuru's excellent connectivity and transport options.
HOW TO JOIN:
The registration will be on First Come First Serve basis. Participant should be a member of YHAI. Non members can not register to the program. Registration will be stopped once the number reaches 100. Members desiring to join this trekking program may apply on the prescribed registration form which is available free of cost from Units/State Branch and also through Website - https://www.yhaindia.org/Media/Download.
ACCOMMODATION FACILITIES:
Accommodation is arranged at Government Youth Hostel, Mysuru, for all the participants.
Youth Hostel Mysore is reputed for being a safe and secure place for all hostellers. This reputation of the Hostel has been painstakingly earned over decades of effort by imposition of strict discipline and code of conduct by various Wardens.
Hostel provides the following facilities:
FOOD & WATER SUPPLIES:
Participants get to taste some of unique food items (traditionally lacto-vegetarian) of Mysuru Style. Highlights are - Masala Dosa, Akki Rotti, Idli-Wada-Sambar, Chapathi-Sagu-Chatni, etc. and specially “Mysore Pak” traditional sweet of the Mysuru.

Participants must bring the basic gears such as –
· Minimum cotton clothing
· Shoes with a good grip, slippers, spare socks, Shawl or bedspread, Air Pillow, Woolen Sweater, Scarf (Woolen cap)

SAFETY & SECURITY:
Extensive and painstaking preparations have gone into planning of this trek routes considering the participant’s safety. The YHAI and the organizers of Gangothri Unit, Mysuru, will not be held responsible for any accidents, illness and any such unforeseen eventualities. Deviation from the set route of the program is not permitted. As a precautionary measure, life insurance is also provided to all participating trekkers.
ADDITIONAL NOTES:
(1) We are very happy to say that during 1990s,YHAI Gangothri Unit had conducted YHAI State Level “Cauvery River Valley” trekking program.
(2) During 1997, organized State Level Bandipur Range Trekking program for Senior Trekkers, which was held very successfully.
(3) During 2014, we had organized Western Ghat State Level Trekking Program at Yellapura and Kumta Region of North Canara. The duration of the camp was 4 nights and 5 days. There were 5 batches and in each batch the participant’s strength was 40. A total of 200 trekkers had participated.
(4) During 2022, we had organized Dandeli State Level Trekking Program at Ulavi and the base camp was Shivapura. The duration of the camp was 4 nights and 5 days. Only one batch was conducted and the total participants were 130.
CANCELLATION RULES:
In case any participants unable to attend the trek even after paying the participation fee, only 50% amount will be refunded, if the request for cancellation is received at least 15 days before the commencement of the program. However, no refund will be made if cancellation date falls short of 15 days.
