Overview:
World's highest motorable pass–Umling La (Pass) in Ladakh, which is higher than the base camp of Mount Everest is open to cyclists which is why YHAI gives you an opportunity of a lifetime to be on board for an expedition of a lifetime. A cycling expedition where we’ll ride through the mighty Tanglang la, majestic Tsomoriri lake and eventually on Umlingla. This expedition will challenge you on every possible day as we ride through the toughest terrains in the world.
Day wise Schedule:
Day 1: reporting at Leh
Day 2: Test ride
Day 3: Rest and acclimatisation. Can be taken for sightseeing. Or can be cancelled if time constrained.
Day 4: Ride to Rumtse. Ride is too long so start by 7 am
Day 5: Ride to Debring: Crossing Tanglangla was tough for many participants. Nearly 1/3 had to be sweeped on the climb. Here again start ride at 7 am
Day 6: ride to Puga: Comfortable ride. Start by 8 am
Day 7: Ride to Nyoma. Start by 8 am
Day 8: Ride to Hanley is good but there is headwind on the way. Just outside Hanley there is army canteen with free WiFi where participants can have food and last communication as at Hanley no network.
Strong suggestion we should accommodate participants in proper twin sharing rooms. As setting up tent in Hanely is not allowed.
One day extra stay here in Hanley will be good before last day ride to Chisumle which is the last campsite before Umlingla climb. As we skip ride to Tsomoriri we save a day here which can be used as recovery day at Hanley.
There is Observatory and Giant telescope at Hanley. Which can be kept as option on free day/ recovery day. As next day ride to Chisumle is very tough. I can say toughest of the expedition and a rest day before ride will be ideal.
Day 9: Rest day. Trucks can proceed to Chisumle and set up camp. As we have no campsite at Hanley we can do that.
Chisumle big truck can not be taken from Hanley from cycling route hence extra small vehicle was arranged last time. But Truck can go to this place from different route which should be checked for next expedition.
Day 10: Hanley to Chisumle. Start at 7 am. It is tought and long ride. Chisumle is a good place to chill.
Day 11: Ride to Umlingla. Start rice at 5 am.
After finishing Umlingla come back down to Chisumle and the Bus will take participants back to leh.
Day 12: Disburse
Recommendation
This is a difficult expedition more strenuous then MLK. It should be specifically mentioned that only experienced riders who could do MLK and other difficult rides should participate and others should not be allowed. There are other YHAI cycling expeditions which they should participate.
Recovery day at Hanley and stay in proper hotel in twin sharing room.
