*Brief description of the program: 

The Pindari Glacier has been attracting tourists since years due to its unique beauty, moderate risk level trek & natural diversity in the Himalayan region of Kumaon. This Glacier is located South-East of Nandakot, which is on the edge of Nanda Devi. Pindari Glacier is a large & gradual rising glacier, whose length is 3.2 km & width is 1.5 km. The zero point of Pindari glacier is located at an elevation of 12,007 feet above measured sea level. Pindari Glacier is the source of river Pinder, which meets River Alaknanda at the confluence of Karnaprayag in District Garhwal. Trek starts from Camp Loharkhet, then passes through Dhakuri, Khati village (the last & large inhabited village on the trail), Dwali. After Dwali, follows the Pindari glacier through Phurkia & Zero point. Trek route is about 90 km long. The round-trip trek is comfortable for most of the trekkers to complete in 9 days. Pindari Glacier is also famous for other adventure sports such as Mountaineering Expedition, Ice climbing & Mountain Biking as mentioned in State Govt. information.

Mythology: According to mythology Pandavas did Pind Dan at this place before proceeding to swarga since then place is known as Pindari.

MANDATORY: Trekking Medical Certificate will be compulsory at the time of reporting (with 30 days of validity ) duly signed by  Registered Medical Practitioner (MBBS / MD only) along with his Registration no. and Name Stamp.

* How To Reach:

The base camp of the program will be at Loharkhet village, which is approx 30 km from Bageshwar, 98 km from Almora, and 178 km from Kathgodam Railway station.

* Who can Participate: 

The minimum age for a member to join the program is 18 years to 60 Years, YHAI membership is mandatory to participate. This condition will be adhered to strictly. Under age and above age will not be considered. Members desirous of joining this programme may apply online duly supported by a "Trekking Medical Certificate".

Special Cases for Consideration:

Subject to a person being medically fit and a regular trekker than he can be allowed in offline mode (Seat Availability & Management Discretion will be final). In this case, he/she has to produce Indemnity bond of Rs 100/- from his respective state and has to submit the same along with his Registration form.



Online Booking: Members desirous of joining this programme may apply online by paying requesite program fee along with online booking amount, ie Rs.7875/- (including Online Booking Amount )

We accept Net Banking, Debit Card and Credit Card payment on for online payments.

After successful transaction Admit Card will be generated. Participant has to carry "Admit Card", "Trekking Medical Certificate" & "Membership Card"(Clear Print out of membership card may also be accepted) at the time of reporting to the Base Camp.

Offline Booking: Members desirous of joining this programme may apply on the prescribed "Trekking Registration Form" duly supported by a "Trekking Medical Certificate", along with a Demand Draft of requisite amount of Rs.7500/-  in favour of “ Youth Hostels Association of India” payable at New Delhi. There is no refund applicable for all the programme bookings done after 25th September, 2019. The Trekking registartion Form and Demand Draft may be sent to following address:

Transfer to Base camp Loharkhet

Transfer to Base camp Loharkhet (5604 feet) all participants by jeep (transportation will be paid by participant).

Move for Supi from Base camp by jeep

Move for Supi from Base camp by jeep (12 km/ 1 hour) then trek from Supi to Khati (7380 feet) (10km/ 5 hours).


Trek from Khati (7380 feet) to Dwali

Trek from Khati (7380 feet) to Dwali (8970 feet) (13 km/ 6 hours)


Trek from Dwali (8970 Feet) to Phurkia (10,531 feet) (5km/ 2 hours)

Trek from Dwali (8970 Feet) to Phurkia (10,531 feet) (5km/ 2 hours) then deposit rucksack to Phurkia camp & move to ZERO point (12,870 feet). After visiting ZERO point night stay will be at Phurkia camp. (5+5= 10 km/ 6 hours).


Trek from Phurkia (10,531 Feet) to Khati (7380 feet) (18 km/ 8 hours) fully downhill.


Trek from Khati (7380 Feet) to Dhakuri (8793 feet) (8 km/ 4 hours).


Trek from Dhakuri (8793 feet) to Base camp (5604 feet) (12 km/ 7 hours).

* Special Casual leave: The Trekking Expedition organized by Youth Hostels Association of India have the approval of Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions (Dept. of Personnel And Training), Government of India, vide Office Order no. 28016/3/89-Estt (A), Dated 25 October, 1989. Participants working in the Central Govt. Organization can apply to the authorities concerned for availing special casual leave for the duration of the expedition. This leave can be sanctioned by their office up to 30 days in calendar year.

*SAFETY & SECURITY:  Extensive and painstaking preparations have gone into the planning of trekking routes for your safety. Our Trekking staff have been visited the route in details.  Every care has been taken to ensure safety. Youth Hostels Association of India, will not be held responsible for any accident, illness or any unforeseen exigency even casualties. Deviation from the set route of the programme is not permitted. If participants desire to join any other activities they may do so at their own cost and responsibility, only after finishing the programme and checking out.

*ADDITIONAL NOTES: Burning of wood during camp fire is strictly prohibited.

Smoking, drinking alcohol & drug abuse in the camp & during trek is strictly prohibited. 

* Justice TPS Chawla Scholarship for underprivileged Girls: YHAI has announced Justice T.P.S. Chawla Memorial Adventure Scholarship for underprivileged girls for participation in YHAI Adventure Activities. Girls whose family income is less than Rs.100000/- P.A. can avail this scholarship.  Applicant has to submit the salary certificate of their parents along with PAN card details.  In case of Business, she has to submit their income on an affidavit. Deserving participants may apply to the National Office YHAI supported by relevant document / certificates.

*Adventure Scholarship for Physically Challenged Youth: YHAI has announced 50% Adventure Scholarships to physically challenged youth (including deaf & dumb) for YHAI Adventure Activities. Deserving participants may apply to the National Office YHAI, on a plain paper supported by relevant documents/certificates (Disability Certificate).  

*Off the Beaten Siddharth Scholarship for Underprivileged Young Men & Women :YHAI has announced 50% scholarship in programme fee to underprivileged Young Men & Women less than 30 years of age with an opportunity to participate in outdoor adventure activities/ programs by YHAI in various parts of the country.  Underprivileged Young Men & Women whose family income is less than Rs. 250000/- P.A can avail this scholarship by applying to the National Office YHAI supported by relevant document/ 

certificates through their respective State Branch.

* Photography Competition: After the completion of each trekking expedition, a photography competition will be held for which attractive prizes and certificates will be awarded. You may also send your entries in the form of colored slides or prints on the following subjects: Nature-birds, Flowers, Scenic Beauty, Camping and Trekking. The size of the prints should be 8” x 10”. Please give brief details of the location of the subjects and also your name, address and group number on the reverse of the photograph. YHAI has the right to retain/use even the entries which are not selected for awards. Last date for submitting entries is 31st Dec, 2019.



* Cancellation Policy:

In case you are unable to join this trek, you will get a refund of 50%  of your booking provided your request is received through online link & offline booking should come through the post directly at the National Office-New Delhi, before & till 25 September, 2019. After this date, no refund application will be considered.

For offline bookings, cancellation request may be sent via mail, post etc to the National Office and should reach office on or before 25 September, 2019. After this date no refund application will be considered.

  • Seat once booked will not be re-scheduled or transferred.
  • Any unforeseen event/ strike or natural calamity/ unfit medical condition will not be considered as a cause of cancellation.
  • Refund will be initiated after 30-45 days post completion of the program.
