*Brief description of the program: We are pleased to inform you that like previous years YHAI is organizing National Himalayan Trekking Expedition Sandakphu – Gurdum in Darjeeling Region at Eastern Himalaya from 1st May to 20th May, 2019.Sandakphu, the world famous trekking paradise, from where you can enjoy the clear views of Himalayan Giants like Mount Everest (29036 ft.), Khangchendzonga (28170 ft), Lhotse (27940 ft), Nuptse (25791 ft), Makalu (27825 ft.), Kumbhakarna (25296 ft.) , Pandim (21953 ft.), Chomolhari (24036 ft) and many more upto Arunachal Pradesh.

MANDATORY: Trekking Medical Certificate will be compulsory at the time of reporting only (with 30 days of validity ) duly signed by  registered Medical Practitioner (MBBS / MD only) along with his registration no. and stamp.

* How To Reach:

The Base Camp is at International Youth Hostels  Darjeeling, Chota Kakjhora, Near New Taxi Stand, 500mtr away only. Before Darjeeling Railway Station, Darjeeling is easily accessible from any part of India by Air, Rail or Road, The Railway Station is New Jalpaiguri (73 kms / 3 hours) and the Airport at Bagdogra ( 70 kms / 2.5 hours) being the links to the outside world. From there avail Bus/Jeep/Taxi services to reach International Youth Hostel, Darjeeling.

* Program Includes:

 Accommodation,  Veg food, Group Insurance, Forest entry fees, Guide and Trekking.

* Day Wise schedule:

# Day 1: Reporting at Base Camp, (6700 ft.) after 3 p.m.

# Day 2: Training/Acclimatization/ Orientation

# Day 3: Transfer to Dhotrey (8500 ft.) by Jeep. Trek to Tumling (10000 ft.) 7 KM.

# Day 4: Trek to Kalipokhri (10196 ft.) 13 KM.

# Day 5:  Trek to Sandakphu (11941 ft ) 6 KM.

# Day 6: Trek to Gurdum (9514 ft)  14 KM (fully decending)

# Day 7: Trek to Rimbik (7498 ft .) via Sirikhola (3572 ft), 11 KM. Certificate Distribution and Recreation Activity 

# Day 8: Transfer by Jeep to Darjeeling Base Camp (52KM.) Check out.

Note- Participants are requested to report at base camp by  9 p.m.

Total round Trekking Route- 51 km.(approx.)

*IMPORTANT: Please read all the instructions regarding the programme carefully before booking the same (including cancellation policy).

* Who can Participate: 

The minimum age for a member to join the program is 18 years to 60 Years, YHAI membership is mandatory to participate. This condition will be adhered to strictly. Under age and above age will not be considered. Members desirous of joining this programme may apply online duly supported by a "Trekking Medical Certificate".

Special Cases for Consideration:

On the special case if the person is medically fit and a regular trekker than he can be allowed in offline mode (decision will be final only on management discretion and seat availability). In this case, he/she has to produce Indemnity bond on rs 100/- bond paper from his respective state and has to submit the same along with his Registration form.

*HOW TO REACH :

Darjeeling is easily accessible from any part of India by Air, Rail or Road, The Railway Station is NewJalpaiguri and the Airport at Bagdogra being the links to the outside world. From there avail Bus/Jeep/Taxi services to reach Darjeeling (90 km.) in 3.0 hrs.

*HOW TO PARTICIPATE:

Online Booking: Members desirous of joining this programme may apply online by paying requesite program fee along with online booking amount ie Rs.6825/- (including Online Booking Amount )

We accept Net Banking, Debit Card and Credit Card payment on www.yhaindia.org for online payments.

After successful transaction Admit Card will be generated. Participant has to carry "Admit Card", "Trekking Medical Certificate" & "Membership Card"(Print out of membership card may also be accepted) at the time of reporting to the Base Camp.

Offline Booking: Members desirous of joining this programme may apply on the prescribed "Trekking Registration Form" duly supported by a "Trekking Medical Certificate", along with a Demand Draft of requisite amount of Rs.6500/-  in favour of “ Youth Hostels Association of India” payable at New Delhi. *ACCOMMODATION FACILITIES: It will cover stay in pucca built accommodation, 

*FOOD & WATER SUPPLIES: Sufficient simple nutritious food will be provided. 

*WHAT PARTICIPANTS SHOULD BRING ALONG: carry your own Rucksack ,Cotton Shirt and Pants, Woolen Jersey and Wind-cheater, Inner Garments, Two pair thick woolen socks and two pair cotton socks, Shoe/Sneakers and chappal, Woolen gloves and Monkey cap, Light Rain Coat, Sun Cap, Towel, Sun Glass, Torch, Water Bottle and water purifier, Plate, Mug and Spoon, Packed Lunch Box, Needle and thread with spare Buttons, Toilet papers, Vaseline, Soap, Pen and Note Book, Medicine which you normally use at home. Optional: Camera, Musical Instruments.

*SAFETY & SECURITY:  Extensive and painstaking preparations have done into the planning of trekking routes for your safety. Our field staffs have been visiting the area to check all in details.  Every care has been taken to ensure safety. Youth Hostels Association of India, West Bengal State Branch will not be held responsible for any accident, illness and such other unforeseen even casualties. Deviation from the set route of the programme is not permitted. If participants desire to join and other activities they may do so at their own cost and responsibility and only after finishing the programme and checking out.

*ADDITIONAL NOTES: Burning of woods during camp fire is strictly prohibited.

Smoking, drinking alcohol & drug abuse in the campus is strictly prohibited. 

* Justice TPS Chawla Scholarship for underprivileged Girls: YHAI announced Justice T.P.S. Chawla Memorial Adventure Scholarship for underprivileged girls for participation in YHAI adventure activities. Girls whose family income is less than Rs.100000/- p.a. can avail this scholarship.  Applicant has to submit the salary certificate of their parents.  In case of Business, she has to submit their income on an affidavit. Deserving participants may apply to the National Office YHAI supported by relevant document / certificates.

*Adventure Scholarship for Physically Challenged Youth: YHAI announced 50% adventure scholarships of to physically challenged youth (including deaf & dumb) for YHAI adventure activities. Deserving participants may apply to the National Office YHAI, on a plain paper supported by relevant documents/certificates (Disability Certificate).  

*Off the beaten Siddharth Scholarship for underprivileged Young Men & Women :YHAI announced 50% Off the Beaten Track Siddharth Scholarship of the program fee to provide underprivileged Young Men & Women less than 30 years of age with an opportunity to participate in outdoor adventure activities/ programs by YHAI in various parts of the country.  Underprivileged Young Men & Women whose family income is less than Rs. 250000/- p.a can avail this scholarship by applying to the National Office YHAI supported by relevant document/ 

certificates through their respective State Branch.

* Photography Competition: After the completion of each trekking expedition, a photography competition will be held for which attractive prizes and certificates will be awarded. You may also send your entries in the form of colored slides or prints on the following subjects: Nature-birds, Flowers, Scenic Beauty, Camping and Trekking. The size of the prints should be 8” x 10”. Please give brief details of the location of the subjects and also your name, address and group number on the reverse of the photograph. YHAI has the right to retain/use even the entries which are not selected for awards due to acknowledgement/compensation. Last date for submitting entries is 31st Dec, 2019.

 

 

 

* Cancellation Policy:

In case you are unable to join this trek, you will get a refund of 50%  of your booking provided when your request is received through online link http://www.yhaindia.org/program-cancellation.php & offline booking should come through the post directly at the National Office-New Delhi, before 06 September, 2019. After this date no refund application will be considered.

For offline booking, cancellation request may be sent via mail, post etc to the National Office and should reach office before 06 September, 2019. After this date no refund application will be considered.

Seat once booked may not be re-scheduled or transferred.

There is no refund applicable for the all the program bookings done after 06th September, 2019.

Any unforeseen event/ strike or natural calamity/ unfit medical condition will not be considered as a cause of cancellation.

Refund may be given after completion of the programs 30 to 45 working days.
