*Brief description of the program: We are pleased to inform you that like previous years YHAI is organizing National Himalayan Winter Trekking Expedition Sandakphu – Gurdum in Darjeeling Region at Eastern Himalaya from 10th December’2018 to 5th January’2019.Sandakphu, the world famous trekking paradise, from where you can enjoy the clear views of Himalayan Giants like Mount Everest (29036 ft.), Khangchendzonga (28170 ft), Lhotse (27940 ft), Nuptse (25791 ft), Makalu (27825 ft.), Kumbhakarna (25296 ft.) , Pandim (21953 ft.), Chomolhari (24036 ft) and many more upto Arunachal Pradesh.
MANDATORY: Trekking Medical Certificate will be compulsory at the time of reporting only (with 30 days of validity ) duly signed by  registered Medical Practitioner (MBBS / MD only) along with his registration no. and stamp.

* How To Reach:
The Base Camp is at International Youth Hostels  Darjeeling, Chota Kakjhora, Near New Taxi Stand, 500mtr away only. Before Darjeeling Railway Station, Darjeeling is easily accessible from any part of India by Air, Rail or Road, The Railway Station is New Jalpaiguri (73 kms / 3 hours) and the Airport at Bagdogra ( 70 kms / 2.5 hours) being the links to the outside world. From there avail Bus/Jeep/Taxi services to reach International Youth Hostel, Darjeeling.
* Program Includes:
 Accommodation, Nutritious Veg food, Group Insurance, Forest entry fees, Guide and Trekking.
* Day Wise schedule:
# Day 1: Reporting at Base Camp, (6700 ft.) after 3 p.m.
# Day 2: Training/Acclimatization/ Orientation
# Day 3: Transfer to Dhotrey (8500 ft.) by Jeep. Trek to Tumling (10000 ft.) 7 KM.
# Day 4: Trek to Kalipokhri (10196 ft.) 13 KM.
# Day 5:  Trek to Sandakphu (11941 ft ) 6 KM.
# Day 6: Trek to Gurdum (9514 ft)  14 KM (fully decending)
# Day 7: Trek to Rimbik (7498 ft .) via Sirikhola (3572 ft), 11 KM. Certificate Distribution and Recreation Activity followed by Grand Dinner.
# Day 8: Transfer by Jeep to Darjeeling Base Camp (52KM.) Have hot Lunch, and Check out.
Note- Participants are requested to report at base camp by  9 p.m.

* Who can Participate: 
The minimum age for a member to join the program is 18 years to 60 Years, YHAI membership is mandatory to participate. This condition will be adhered to strictly. Under age and above age will not be considered in any case. Members desirous of joining this programme may apply online duly supported by a "Trekking Medical Certificate".
Special Allowance Cases:
On the special case if the person is medically fit and a regular trekker than he can be allowed in offline mode (decision will be final only on management discretion and seat availability). In this case, he/she has to produce Indemnity bond on rs 100/- bond paper from his respective state and has to submit the same along with his Registration form.
* How to Participate:
Online Booking: Members desirous of joining this programme may apply online by paying requesite program fee along with online booking amount ie Rs.6510- (including online booking charges)
We accept Net Banking, Debit Card and Credit Card payment on for online payments.
After successful transaction Admit Card will be generated. Participant has to carry two copy of  "Admit Card", "Trekking Medical Certificate" (Validity 30 days only)& "Membership Card"(Print out of membership card may also be accepted) at the time of reporting to the Base Camp.
Offline Booking: Members desirous of joining this programme may apply on the prescribed "Trekking Registration Form" duly supported by a  along with a Demand Draft of requisite amount of Rs.6200/- in favour of “ Youth Hostels Association of India” payable at New Delhi. * Cancellation Policy:
In case you are unable to join this trip you will get 50 % of the program fee Rs. 3100/- as refund, provided your request is received directly in the National Office on or before 20th Nov, 2018.
Seat once booked may not be re-scheduled or transferred.
There is no refund applicable for the all the program bookings done after 20th Nov, 2018.
Any unforeseen event/ strike or natural calamity/ unfit medical condition will not be considered as a cause of cancellation.
Refund may be given after completion of the programs 30 to 45 working days.
* Food  & Supplies: YHAI provides nutritious, vegetarian and good quality meals which includes Morning tea, breakfast, packed lunch, evening tea (in the camp), dinner and after dinner tea/coffee/Bournvita, shall be provided.  Please bring your own plates, mugs, spoons etc.
* Accommodation Facilities:
Sharing Basic Pacca Build Accomodation.
* Safety & Security:
Extensive and painstaking preparations have done into the planning of routes for your safety. Our Field Staffs have been visiting the area to check all in details, every care has been taken to ensure safety. Youth Hostels Association of India West Bengal State Branch Can Not Be Held Responsible for any accident, illness and such other unforeseen casualties. If Participants desire to join and other activities they may do so at their own cost and responsibility and only after finishing the program and checking out.
* What participants should bring along:
Rucksack, Cotton Shirt and Pants, Woolen Jersey and Wind Cheater, Jacket, Inner Garments, Two pair thick woolen socks and two pair cotton socks, Trekking shoe and chappal, Woolen gloves and Monkey cap, Light Rain Coat, Sun Cap, Towel, Sun Glass, Torch, Water Bottle and water purifier, Plate, Mug and Spoon, Packed Lunch Box, Needle and thread with spare Buttons, Toilet papers, Walking Sticks, Vaseline, Soap, Pen and Note Book, Medicine which you normally use at home. Optional: Camera, Musical Instruments.
* Notice to Participants:
1.  Smoking, use of alcohol and narcotics of any description is strictly prohibited during the course of the program.
2.  Stay other than YHAI Camp is not allowed for the entire duration of the camp.
3.  This is an environment friendly trek. Do no litter any wrappers or spoil the trial in any way. In case you find any wrapper, plastic bag, water bottle or anything left by trekkers on the way, please carry the same with you and deposit at the base camp.
4.  Burning of wood during camp fire is strictly prohibited. Import of any bio Non- degradable Material in West Bengal is an offence
* Special Casual leave:
The Trekking Expedition organized by Youth Hostels Association of India have the approval of Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions (Dept. of Personnel And Training), Government of India, vide Office Order no. 28016/3/89-Estt (A), Dated 25 October, 1989. Participants working in the Central Govt. Organization can apply to the authorities concerned for availing special casual leave for the duration of the expedition. This leave can be sanctioned by their office up to 30 days in calendar year.
*Justice TPS Chawla Scholarship for underprivileged Girls: YHAI announced Justice T.P.S. Chawla Memorial Adventure Scholarship for underprivileged girls for participation in YHAI adventure activities. Girls whose family income is less than Rs.100000/- p.a. can avail this scholarship.  Applicant has to submit the salary certificate of their parents.  In case of Business, she has to submit their income on an affidavit. Deserving participants may apply to the National Office YHAI supported by relevant document / certificates.
*Adventure Scholarship for Physically Challenged Youth: YHAI announced 50% adventure scholarships of to physically challenged youth (including deaf & dumb) for YHAI adventure activities. Deserving participants may apply to the National Office YHAI, on a plain paper supported by relevant documents/certificates (Disability Certificate).  
*Off the beaten Siddharth Scholarship for underprivileged Young Men & Women :YHAI announced 50% Off the Beaten Track Siddharth Scholarship of the program fee to provide underprivileged Young Men & Women less than 30 years of age with an opportunity to participate in outdoor adventure activities/ programs by YHAI in various parts of the country.  Underprivileged Young Men & Women whose family income is less than Rs. 250000/- p.a can avail this scholarship by applying to the National Office YHAI supported by relevant document/ certificates through their respective State Branch.
