*About Program:

Chainsheel (approx. 13,700Ft) is Ridge Line located on the top of Garhwal Himalayan Ranges in Bangan region of Kotigad Valley of Mori Block in Uttrakashi District of Uttarakhand. It consists of lush green meadows covering vast areas and straddling along all directions. Meaning of Chainsheel in local dialect is pleasant as moonlight and near the moon. The trek offers a scenic view of floral landscape along with streams and gushing waterfalls. The region also shared its boundary with Himachal Pradesh, the adjoining state of Uttarakhand.

Trekking Grading: Easy to Moderate

Range: Garhwal Himalaya, Uttarakhand

Flora & Fauna: Some of the faunal and floral species find in this area includes Himalayan Black Bear, Barking Deer, Musk Deer, Thar, Peasantry Birds, Deodar, Sprus, Silver Oak, Silver Birch, Purple and White species of Rhododendron and other important medicinal plants etc.

Highest Altitude Gain: approx 13700FT

*Duration: 8N/9D (on 9th day participants will have to checkout after breakfast from Base Camp).

*Reporting Point:

The base camp of the program is at Balawat Village which is approx. 220 kms from Dehradun & 140 kms. from Shimla. The village is at altitude of 6283ft and having population of 24 families. The wooden houses converted into homestay, surrounding apple orchards, and hospitable attitude of local villagers will give a warm welcome to the arriving trekkers. BSNL & IDEA are having good connectivity at base camp.

*Reporting Date: 30 participant in each reporting day from 1st April to 10th April 2018.

*How to Reach:

There are three routes to reach at Base camp the details are as follows:

1.       Shimla-Hatkoti-Arakot-Tikochi-Balawat (Total 153km)

This route is the shortest route is well connected with HRTC buses up to Arakot. The road condition is also very good.

 

2.       Dehradun- Mussurie- Purola-Mori-Tiuni-Arakot-Tikochi-Balawat (Total 220Km)

Although the route is long but the road condition is good. And is an all-weather road.

 

3.       Dehradun-Vikasnagar-Minus-Tiuni-Arakot-Tikochi-Balawat (Total 195km)

The route is short but the road condition is very bad. Not suitable for rainy season. The area is prone to landslides during rainy season.

From Arakot to Balawat local jeeps are available on sharing basis.

Note: Participants are advised to reach before 7 P.M. at base camp Balawat because there will be shortage of conveyance after that in Hilly area. 

*Day Wise Schedule:

#Day 01: Reporting at Balawat Base Camp (6283Ft)

Full day reporting and rest. Participants will be accommodated at home stay and will be issued equipment.

 

#Day02: Acclimatization and Orientation:

Participants will move around the base camp to gain height for proper acclimatization, followed by the opening address in which they will be briefed about YHAI, high altitude sickness and some Do’s and Don’ts in mountains.

 

#Day03: Trek to Kautiya Thach (9500 ft)

This camp is about 7kms from base camp. One has to climb up steeply to reach this camp. The route starts from the apple orchards of nearby villagers and gradually leads to a dense forest of Deodar, Silver Oak, Rhododendron trees. One can feel mesmerized by listening the chirping of native birds. It will take approx 6hrs to reach at this camp.

#Day04: Bhutah Thach (10600 ft)

This camp is about 8kms from previous camp having undulating terrain. It is surrounded by scared tree of Silver Birch (Bhoj Patra) and Kharsu (a kind of oak tree) which marks the end of tree lines and starting of alpine region. The area is dominated by trees of white rhododendron and the sighting of Monal peasant (Lophophorus impejanus) and a holistic view of village. It will take approx 6hrs to reach this camp. BSNL network is available.

#Day05: Samta Thach (12135 ft)

This is the most beautiful meadow of Chainsheel range and offers a 360o panoramic view of surrounded snow clad peaks of Shimla Range and Bandarpunch massif it is approx 5-6km from previous camp. The flat meadow and flowers of this area gives amazing view. Some of the plants here are rare and having great medicinal properties. Bsnl, Idea & Vodafone’s network are available. It will take approx 6 hrs to reach the camp.

#Day06: Kashmoulti Thach (12700 ft)

This camp offers the view of Pabber Valley from the Bugyal. On this day we will cross the highest point of this trek which is approx 13700FT by the name of Sauyi-Sunai. This camp is 6kms away from previous camp and takes about 4-5 hrs of trekking to reach.

#Day07: Falchi (11550 ft)

This camp marks the starting of forest area and ending of alpine meadows. This camp is on the way to Saru tal, a small lake that perched between meadows of Samta Thach and Tikula Thach located in Himachal Pradesh. The best sight of this area is the sunset which turns the land into golden giving an astonishing feeling. Only BSNL Mobile network is available. This camp is approx 6kms away from previous camp and will take about 4-5 hrs trekking.

 

#Day08: Descent to Base Camp

This is the final trekking day of this expedition through the route descends steeply along the nearby river stream. The forest is mainly dominated by Oak trees and is a habitat of Himalayan Black Bear & Leopard. The sighting of some Peasantry Birds like Monal, Western Tragopan etc. can also be possible in this area. The distance to base camp is approx 11kms and will take about 8hrs to reach base camp.

 

#Day09: Checkout after Breakfast

*WHO CAN PARTICIPATE?

The participant must be physically, and medically fit and above the age of 15 years to 65 years. YHAI membership is mandatory to participate. This condition will be adhered to strictly. Under age will not be considered in any case. The participant should be in position of Medical Certificate at the time of reporting, and the validity of Medical Certificate will be considered only for one month.

*HOW TO PARTICIPATE:

We accept Net Banking, Debit Card and Credit Card payment on www.yhaindia.org for online payments.

After successful transaction Admit Card will be generated. Participant has to carry "Admit Card", "Trekking Medical Certificate" & "Membership Card, two passport size photographs at the time of reporting to the Base Camp.

Offline Booking: Members desirous of joining this programme may apply on the prescribed "Trekking Registration Form" duly supported by a "Trekking Medical Certificate", along with a Demand Draft of requisite amount of Rs.6250/- in favor of “Youth Hostels Association of India” payable at New Delhi. All Offline Booking confirmation is subject to availability of seats. National Office will send the Admit Card along with confirmation letter to the participant at the address mentioned in "Trekking Registration Form".

*CANCELLATION POLICY:

In case you are unable to join this trek, you will get a refund of 50% of your booking (except online charges) provided when your request is received through http://www.yhaindia.org/program-cancellation.php & offline booking should be come through the post directly at the National Office-New Delhi, before 10th March, 2018. After this date no refund application will be considered. Any unforeseen event / strike or natural calamity will not be considered as a cause of cancellation.

Online Booking must be cancelled through online or by mail, mail or written request will not be considered for refund if not received by or before scheduled date 10th March, 2018.

OR

Offline Booking Request for cancellation and refund may be sent through post/courier at following address provided it should reach National Office before 10th March, 2018.

Seat once booked may not be re-scheduled or transferred.

Any unforeseen event / strike or natural calamity will not be considered as a cause of cancellation.

Refund may be given after completion of the programs 30 to 45 working days.

* Food & Supplies:Simple, nutritious vegetarian meals

* Accommodation Facilities:Tented accommodation, pucca toilet cum bathroom facility, at the base camp.

* What participants should bring along:Rucksack (if You have one), Walking stick, Woolens, Cotton Shirts, Slacks, Cotton Pants, Sun Cap, Shoes, Socks, Enameled or Steel Mug / tumbler, Plate, Lunch box ,Spoon, Water purifying tablets, Pen knife, Needle, Thread, Spare buttons, Goggles, Cold cream / Vaseline, Soap, Toilet Paper, Towel, Rain sheet,  Medicines which you normally use at home, Camera with extra batteries.

* Safety & Security: Extensive and painstaking preparations have gone into the planning of trekking routed for your safety. Our field staff and experienced camp leaders have been visiting the area to check all details. While every care has been taken to ensure safety, the Youth Hostels Association of India cannot be held responsible for any accident, illness and such other unforeseen eventualities.

*ADDITIONAL NOTES:

Notice to Participants: YHAI membership card or Receipt of payment for membership fees and Admit card, original Medical Certificate & two Passport size photographs is must to enter into the Base Camp. Without these documents participating members will not be allowed at Base Camp.

* Special Casual leave:

 The Trekking Expedition organized by Youth Hostels Association of India have the approval of Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions (Dept. of Personnel And Training), Government of India, vide Office Order no. 28016/3/89-Estt (A), Dated 25 October, 1989. Participants working in the Central Govt. Organization can apply to the authorities concerned for availing special casual leave for the duration of the expedition. This leave can be sanctioned by their office up to 30 days in calendar year.

*CERTIFICATE: Participants, who successfully complete the trekking and abide by the discipline of the program, will be awarded certificates.

* Adventure Scholarship:

 Justice TPS Chawla Scholarship:

YHAI announces Justice T.P.S. Chawla Memorial Adventure Scholarship for underprivileged girls for participation in YHAI adventure activities. Deserving participants may apply to the National Office YHAI supported by relevant document / certificates.

 Adventure Scholarship for Physically Challenged : YHAI announces 50% adventure scholarships of Rs.3125/- each to physically challenged youth (including deaf & dumb) for this expedition. Deserving participants may apply to the National Office YHAI, on a plain paper supported by relevant documents/certificates.  

Off the beaten Siddhartha Scholarship:

To provide underprivileged young men and women less than 30 years of age with an opportunity to participate in outdoor adventure activities / programs by YHAI in various parts of the country. Deserving participants may apply to the National Office YHAI supported by relevant document / certificates.

* Photography Competition:

 After the completion of each trekking expedition, a photography competition will be held for which attractive cash prizes and certificates will be awarded. You may also send your entries in the form of colored slides or prints on the following subjects: Nature-birds, Flowers, Scenic Beauty, Camping and Trekking. The size of the prints should be 8” x 10”. Please give brief details of the location of the subjects and also your name, address and group number on the reverse of the photograph. YHAI has the right to retain/use even the entries which are not selected for awards due to acknowledgement/compensation.
