Sundakphu - the world famous trekking paradise, from where one can enjoy the clear views of Himalayan Giants like Mount Everest, Kanchenjunga, Lohtse, Nuptse, Makalu, Pandim, Chomolhari, and many more up to Arunachal Pradesh. . For the tourists & trekkers, fresh from the sights of other lands, not only as a delightful surprise but as a variable relief from the hot & sultry weather from plains. The weather at this time of the year is Darjeeling best. Cool Languid days with hardly a cloud in a sky of clear and uninterrupted blue, near by slopes, a luxuriant green in the blue hills shimmering across the valley and the mighty Kanchenjunga range stands as a majestic background towering over everything.

#DAY 1: Reporting at base camp, (2134mt.) after 3 p.m.
#DAY 2: Training/Acclimatisation.
#DAY 3: Transfer to Dhotrey by Jeep. Trek to Tumling(2900mt.) 7 km.
#DAY 4: Trek to Kalipokhri(3108mt.) 13 km.
#DAY 5: Trek to Sandakphu(3636 mt.) 6 km.
#DAY 6: Trek to Gurdum(2910 mt.) 14 km.
#DAY 7: Trek to Rimbik(2286 mt.)via Sirikhola, 13km. Certifiacte Distribution/Valedictory Ceremony and Grand Dinner.
#DAY 8: Transfer by jeep to Darjeeling Base Camp Lunch and Check-out.

Note- Participants are requested to report at base camp by  6 p.m for orientation.

Total round Trekking Route- 53 km.(approx.) Programme & route schedule are subject to change without prior notice.   




*WHO CAN PARTICIPATE: The participant must be physically, and medically fit and above the age of 15 years to 65 years. YHAI membership is mandatory to participate. This condition will be adhered to strictly. Under age will not be considered in any case. The participant should be in position of Medical Certificate at the time of reporting, and the validity of Medical Certificate will be considered only for one month.

Minimum Age: 15 Years

Maximum Age: 65 Years


Darjeeling is easily accessible from any part of India by Air, Rail or Road, The Railway Station is NewJalpaiguri and the Airport at Bagdogra being the links to the outside world. From there avail Bus/Jeep/Taxi services to reach Darjeeling (90 km.) in 3.0 hrs.


Online Booking: Members desirous of joining this programme may apply online by paying requesite program fee along with online booking amount ie Rs.6615/- (including Online Booking Amount )

We accept Net Banking, Debit Card and Credit Card payment on for online payments.

After successful transaction Admit Card will be generated. Participant has to carry "Admit Card", "Trekking Medical Certificate" & "Membership Card"(Print out of membership card may also be accepted) at the time of reporting to the Base Camp.

Offline Booking: Members desirous of joining this programme may apply on the prescribed "Trekking Registration Form" duly supported by a "Trekking Medical Certificate", along with a Demand Draft of requisite amount of Rs.6300/-  in favour of “ Youth Hostels Association of India” payable at New Delhi. In case you are unable to join this trip you will get 50 % of the program fee  Rs. 3000/- as refund, provided your request is received directly in the National Office on or before 10th April’2018.

*ACCOMMODATION FACILITIES: It will cover stay in pucca built accommodation, 


*FOOD & WATER SUPPLIES: Sufficient simple nutritious veg. food will be provided. 


*WHAT PARTICIPANTS SHOULD BRING ALONG: carry your own Rucksack ,Cotton Shirt and Pants, Woolen Jersey and Wind-cheater, Inner Garments, Two pair thick woolen socks and two pair cotton socks, Shoe/Sneakers and chappal, Woolen gloves and Monkey cap, Light Rain Coat, Sun Cap, Towel, Sun Glass, Torch, Water Bottle and water purifier, Plate, Mug and Spoon, Packed Lunch Box, Needle and thread with spare Buttons, Toilet papers, Vaseline, Soap, Pen and Note Book, Medicine which you normally use at home. Optional: Camera, Musical Instruments.



*SAFETY & SECURITY:  Extensive and painstaking preparations have done into the planning of trekking routes for your safety. Our field staffs have been visiting the area to check all in details.  Every care has been taken to ensure safety. Youth Hostels Association of India, West Bengal State Branch will not be held responsible for any accident, illness and such other unforeseen even casualties. Deviation from the set route of the programme is not permitted. If participants desire to join and other activities they may do so at their own cost and responsibility and only after finishing the programme and checking out.


*ADDITIONAL NOTES: Burning of woods during camp fire is strictly prohibited.

Smoking, drinking alcohol & drug abuse in the campus is strictly prohibited. 

* Special Casual leave: 

The Trekking Expedition organized by Youth Hostels Association of India have the approval of Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions (Dept. of Personnel And Training), Government of India, vide Office Order no. 28016/3/89-Estt (A), Dated 25 October, 1989. Participants working in the Central Govt. Organization can apply to the authorities concerned for availing special casual leave for the duration of the expedition. This leave can be sanctioned by their office up to 30 days in calendar year.

* Justice TPS Chawla Scholarship: 

YHAI announces Justice T.P.S. Chawla Memorial Adventure Scholarship for underprivileged girls for participation in YHAI adventure activities. Deserving participants may apply to the National Office YHAI supported by relevant document / certificates.

* Adventure Scholarship for Handicap: 

YHAI announces 50 adventure scholarships of each to physically challenged youth (including deaf & dumb) for this expedition. Deserving participants may apply to the National Office YHAI, on a plain paper supported by relevant documents/certificates. 

* Off the beaten Siddharth Scholarship:

To provide underpreviledged young men and women less than 30 years of age with an opportunity to participate in outdoor adventure activities / programs by YHAI in various parts of the country. Deserving participants may apply to the National Office YHAI supported by relevant document / certificates.
