* About Program:

The route of mountain biking is of scenic beauty and cultural diversity of Leh Lamayuru enroute Srinagar. This is a place with stunning beauties and sights, apart from being the centre of Tibet-Buddhist culture for ages. It is one of the most sparsely populated regions in the country. The people are a mix of the Tibetan, Balti, Dard and Aryan ethnic strains. You will see beauty of Indus river in your biking route. Your biking route to Lamayuru located at 11,800ft. Lamayuru is a very high altitude deserted area of Leh and famous for 10th centuries old gompas (Buddhist Temple). During your bike riding you will cross Fotula Pass - the highest peak point between Leh & Srinagar at 13,450 ft. 

The program gives you an opportunity to experience one of a lifetime journey fro Leh to Srinagar on Mountain Bike. It is first of a kind program with YHAI. Make sure you book for this one.

* Purpose of the program:

The purpose of the program is to expose the YHAI members to a high altitude unspoiled area of Leh with a sense of love for nature and outdoor recreational activity aiming at promoting adventure in tandem with national integration.

* How to Reach:

By Bus: 

Route-1: from Srinagar 434km via Sonmarg, Zozila Pass & Kargil. J&K State Road Transport Corporation operates regular bus services between Srinagar and Leh on this route with overnight halt at Kargil.

Route-2: from Manali 474km via Keylong, Baralacha, Tanglangla & Upsi. Himachal Pradesh Tourism, HRTC and J&K SRTC operate daily Deluxe and ordinary bus services between Manali and Leh. The bus journey between Leh and Manali with an overnight halt at Keylong or Darcha.

By Air: Major Airlines operate daily flights from Delhi/Jammu/Srinagar.

By Train: The closest railway stations are Jammu, Pathankot or Chandigarh, both at least three days away by bus.

NOTE: There is no prepaid mobile service availability at Leh- Laddakh region, only postpaid services are functional.

# Day 4: Test Ride at Lamayuru (11483ft)

# Day 5: Lamayuru to Heniskot via. Fotula Pass (13478ft) (Total 27 kms)

# Day 6: Heniskot to Mulbek (10827ft) via Khangral (11319ft), Namik (11155ft) (Total 41 kms)

# Day 7: Mulbek to Kargil (8858ft) (Total 38 kms)

# Day 8: Kargil to Thasgam (10128ft) (Total 25 kms)

# Day 9: Thasgam to Drass (10171ft) to Matyan (10827ft) (Total 41 kms)

# Day 10: Matyan to Zozi La (11621ft) to Sonmarg (9186ft) via Baltal (Total 30 kms)

# Day 11: Sonmarg to Khullan, Gund (7021ft), Kangan (6398ft) (Total 43kms down hill)

# Day 12: Kagan to Ganderbal (5446ft) to Srinagar (5200ft) (Total 36 kms)

# Day 13: Check out after Breakfast

* Who can participate:

This expedition is open to YHAI members who are 18 years and above as on 1st July, 2017. This condition will be adhered to strictly. Under age will not be considered in any case.

* How to Join:

* Cancellation Rules: 

In case you are unable to join this biking expedition you will get a refund of Rs.9000/- provided your request is received before 1st August’ 2017. After this date no refund application will be considered. Any unforeseen event /strike or natural calamity will not be considered as a cause of cancellation. Refund will be given after completion of the program.

* Notice to Participant for any illness or injury:

1. Smoking, use of alcohol and narcotics of any description is strictly prohibited during the course of the program.

2. Deviation from the set route of the program is not permitted. If participants may wish to join any other activity, they may do so at their own responsibility and risk only after finishing the program and checking out.

3. Stay other than YHAI Camp is not allowed for the entire duration of the camp.

4. This is an environment friendly trek. Do no litter any wrappers or spoil the trial in any way. In case you find any wrapper, plastic bag or anything left by trekkers on the way, please carry the same with you and deposit at the base camp.

5. Burning of wood during camp fire is strictly prohibited. Import of any bio Non- degradable Material in J & K is an offence.

* Accommodation Facilities:

Tented accommodation/ Guest House on sharing basis.

* Safety & Security:

Extensive and painstaking preparations have gone into the planning of mountain biking routed for your safety. Our field staff and experienced camp leaders have been visiting the area to check all details. While every care has been taken to ensure safety, the Youth Hostels Association of India cannot be held responsible for any accident, illness and such other unforeseen eventualities.

* What participants should along:

Two pair Track suits, Woolen gloves, Woolen socks, Warmers, Sweatshirts, Two Jackets, T Shirts, Cotton Shirts, Slacks, Cotton Pants, Sun Cap, Shoes, Socks, Enameled or Steel Mug / tumbler, Plate, Spoon, Water purifying tablets, Pen knife, Needle, Thread, Rain sheet, Spare buttons, Goggles, Cold cream / Vaseline, Soap, Toilet Paper, Towel, Medicines which you normally use at home, Camera with extra batteries.

* Special Casual leave:

No special casual leave is applicable for mountain biking program.

* IMPORTANT INSTURCTIONS TO THE PARTICIPANTS:

01.   You must bring your Original Photo I-card for verification at various Army check posts during the programme. Without I-Card you will not be allowed to participate in the programme. (Like Voter ID Card, Driving License or Pan Card.

02.   You must be physically fit & must bring your original Medical Certificate (As per YHAI format which is available with the registration form / our website www.yhaindia.org ) at time of reporting at Base Camp, Leh.

03.   You must take at least 6 hours  rest immediately after reaching Leh. (At reporting Base Camp) due to climatic condition.

04.   You must have enough practice over any Normal / Geared Cycle.

06. Inner Line permit is required by the Non-Resident-Indians and Foreigners. They need to obtain inner line permit from local authorities in Leh. Without Inner Line permit such participants may not be allowed at Base Camp Leh.
