* About Program:

Youth Hostel Association of India is organizing the National Himalayan Trekking Expeditions since 46 years at different adventure loving locations all over the country. On enormous demands of our members we started National Mountain Biking Expeditions since more than ten years which gives our participants a wonderful and memorable experience. Such programme provides an opportunity to expose our participants with the scenic beauty of nature while cycling in the forests, mountains, villages and promotes national integration. Now we are organizing a special Mountain biking programme in Srinagar which includes the most fascinating routes and destinations in the valley. While Mountain biking participants will visit many famous tourist  attracted  places to  create  wonderful memories for lifetime. Participant will also meet some famous cyclists of Kashmir (Golden Medalists) 

Note:-These programs are exclusively for YHAI members. Membership is also available at Base   Camp/Online/State Branch/Units of YHAI. YHAI programmes are not subsidized by the Government or any donors.

*Flora and Fauna

Kashmir valley comprises about more than 3000 species of trees and plants. The plants of the western-side are well known for their medicinal properties it is a storehouse of medicinal and aromatic plants, which are used in pharmaceutical and perfume industries as raw material. It includes 55 species of important medicinal and aromatic plants.

The fauna of Kashmir is diverse due to its unique location and climatic conditions. About 16% of the countries mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians and butterflies are present in this valley. Kashmir valley is home of about 75-species of mammals, besides several sub-species, belonging to 54 genera, 21 families and 8 orders. Hangul and Snow Leopard that  surviving there from times unknown. We can see many more fascinating and exquisite forms of life in many national-parks and sanctuaries that are present in the valley

*Reporting Point:  Harwan Srinagar

Our base camp is located very close to Harwan garden, which is about 21 kms from Srinagar and 03 kms beyond the Shalimar Garden in Srinagar district of Jammu and Kashmir. Harwan is one of the famous tourist destination . A beautiful canal, fed from a lake just behind the garden, passes through its center. The canal is bordered with blossoming flowerbeds and chinar trees. The main attraction of the Harwan garden of Kashmir,  is its natural beauty that is present in plenty. The big lawns, carpeted with green grass, draw people towards this place. It also serves as a take-off point for visiting Dachi Gam Wild life sanctuary.



* Duration: 07 Days 06 Nights (check out on seventh day after breakfast)


* Program Dates: There will be 20 participants in each reporting date from 20th May  to 1st June 2017.

 * Program Includes:  Cycle, safety gears, sharing tented accommodation, simple vegetarian food and group insurance.

* Day Wise schedule:

# Day 01 Reporting and Test drive: participants will have to report before afternoon at base camp Harwan and will be accommodated in tents on sharing bases. After opening ceremony, participants will go for a test ride to nearby Dachigam National Park (5 kms)

# Day 02 : Ride To Pari Mahal: After breakfast participants will start the ride towards Parimahal while having special visits to the famous gardens of Kashmir valley which include (Shalimar Garden, Nishat Garden, Botanical Garden, Tulip Garden, Chashmashahi etc.) and back to Base Camp, ( 40 Kms)

# Day 03   Ride to Manasbal Lake: Participants will start ride to reach one of the famous and deepest lake of Kashmir via Kheer Bhawani and back. This lake is fed by precipitation and rainwater and boasts of no major channels for water inflow. Various mountain streams and snow fed seasonal rivers empty themselves into the lake and provide it with vast water resources. Manasbal Lake also boasts of an ancient Hindu temple which is located on its eastern shores. It is believed that this temple was constructed during 800-900 AD and showcases traditional architectural styles of ancient Kashmir

# Day 04 Ride to Kohi Maraan Fort: After breakfast participants will ride towards the Kohimaran Fort where from the whole Srinagar is viewed. The Fort is situated on the banks of the Dal Lake of Srinagar; it is positioned on top of the Sharika Hil (Kohi Maraan) and was built by the great Akbar during his 3rd tour to Kashmir in 1597. This ride will cover many fascinating and historical places which include Hazratbal, NIT Srinagar, Kashmir University, Hari Prabhat, Dharamshala, Seadkadal, Dal Gate etc. This ride will be the circular ride of whole Dal Lake following the road on its edge

# Day 05 Ride to Kangan: on this day participants will have to ride towards Kangan and back to base camp. Kangan is a small town on the way to sonamarg/Zojila/Kargil. It is 30 Km from our base camp

# Day 06 Drive to Shankaracharya: Participants will ride towards shankaracharya  and back via Gopkar road. After reaching back to the camp site participants will have to deposit the equipments.

# Day 07 Check Out : Participants will have to check out after breakfast

* Who can Participate: : Any member with minimum age of 18 may join this expedition. This condition will be adhered to strictly. Under age will not be considered in any case.


* How to Participate:

Online Booking: Members desirous of joining this programme may apply online by paying requisite program fee along with online booking amount i.e. Rs 4200/- ( Rs.4000/- Program Fee/Family + Rs.200/- Online Booking Amount) per head.

We accept Net Banking, Debit Card and Credit Card payment on for online payments.

After successful transaction Admit Card will be generated. Participant has to carry "Admit Card", "Trekking Medical Certificate" & "Membership Card"(Print out of membership card may also be accepted) at the time of reporting to the Base Camp.

Offline Booking: Members desirous of joining this programme may also apply on the prescribed "Trekking Registration Form" duly supported by a "Trekking Medical Certificate", along with a DD of requisite amount of Rs.4050/-(Rs.50 postage charges) per head in favour of “Youth Hostels Association of India” payable at New Delhi. * Cancellation Policy: In case you are unable to join this trip you will get 50% of the program fee as refund, provided your online cancellation request is received before 10th April, 2017.

Any unforeseen event / strike or natural calamity or medical issues of participant will not be considered as a cause of cancellation.

You are advised to take personal insurance cover for your journey and other related matters. While every care has been taken to ensure safety, the Youth Hostels Association of India cannot be held responsible for any accident, illness and such other unforeseen eventualities.

* Food & Supplies: Simple vegitrarian food.
* Accommodation Facilities: tenting accomodation on sharing basis.
* Safety & Security: Extensive and painstaking preparations have gone into the planning of route for your safety. Our field staff and experienced camp leaders have been visiting the area to check all details. * How To Reach: Regular texi services on sharing bases are available from Lal chowk/TRC/Dal Gate, Srinagar to Harwan which takes around 20 minutes. Srinagar is connected to Jammu by road (300 km) which takes less than 08 hours and regular bus and texi service (Day and Night) is available From Jummu bus stand. Nearest Railway Station is Jammu Tawi (JAT) and nearest Airport is Srinagar (SXR)
NOTE: There is no prepaid mobile service availability at Leh- Laddakh region, only postpaid services are functional.
* What participants should along: 
Dress code: Cycling shorts/three quarters/tracks,dryfit/quickdry T-shirts, Jackets, Sun Cap, Trekking Shoes, Socks,

Accessories: Goggles, Sipper/1 Ltr water bottle/waterbags,Small tiffin box, Enameled or Steel Mug / tumbler, Plate, Spoon, pen knife,Cold Cream / Vaseline, Soap, Toilet Paper, Towel, medicines which you normally use at home, Camera.

* Cycle safety & Discipline:

The cycles given are to be kept safe. Any damage/theft of cycles due to negligence of participant, the cost will be borne by the participant.

Behavior during camp

Participants are expected to behave cordially with each other and staff. Any misbehavior/harassment will be a cause for check-out from camp and also being blacklisted from further YHAI camps.

* Notice to Participants: 
1. Smoking, use of alcohol and narcotics of any description is strictly prohibited during the course of the program.

2. Stay other than YHAI Camp is not allowed for the entire duration of the camp.

3. This is an environment friendly trek. Do no litter any wrappers or spoil the trial in any way. In case you find any wrapper, plastic bag or anything left by trekkers on the way, please carry the same with you and deposit at the base camp.

4. Burning of wood during camp fire is strictly prohibited. Import of any bio Non- degradable Material in Himachal Pradesh is an offence.

* Certificates:Participants, who successfully complete the expedition and abide by the discipline of the program, will be awarded certificates.

* Special Casual leave:  No special casual leave is applicable for Mountain Biking program.
** Special Casual leave: The Trekking Expedition organized by Youth Hostels Association of India have the approval of Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions (Dept. of Personnel And Training), Government of India, vide Office Order no. 28016/3/89-Estt (A), Dated 25 October, 1989. Participants working in the Central Govt. Organization can apply to the authorities concerned for availing special casual leave for the duration of the expedition. This leave can be sanctioned by their office up to 30 days in calendar year.
Certificates: Participants, who successfully complete the trekking and abide by the discipline of the program, will be awarded certificates.
* Justice TPS Chawla Scholarship: YHAI announces Justice T.P.S. Chawla Memorial Adventure Scholarship for underprivileged girls for participation in YHAI adventure activities. Deserving participants may apply to the National Office YHAI supported by relevant document / certificates.
* Adventure Scholarship: YHAI announces 50% adventure scholarships of to physically challenged youth (including deaf & dumb) for this expedition. Deserving participants may apply to the National Office YHAI, on a plain paper supported by relevant documents/certificates.  

* Off the beaten Siddharth Scholarship:To provide underprivileged young men and women less than 30 years of age with an opportunity to participate in outdoor adventure activities / programs by YHAI in various parts of the country. Deserving participants may apply to the National Office YHAI supported by relevant document / certificates.

* Photography Competition: After the completion of each trekking expedition, a photography competition will be held for which attractive prizes and certificates will be awarded. You may also send your entries in the form of colored slides or prints on the following subjects: Nature-birds, Flowers, Scenic Beauty, Camping and Trekking. The size of the prints should be 8” x 10”. Please give brief details of the location of the subjects and also your name, address and group number on the reverse of the photograph. YHAI has the right to retain/use even the entries which are not selected for awards due to acknowledgement/compensation. Last date for submitting entries is 31st July 2017.
