People from the poles apart cultures and regions participate in our programs and enjoy our economical and budgeted adventure programmes. A large number of volunteers work with dedication, and support us for running these programmes successfully. As a part of the Silver Jubilee Celebration of YHAI National Trekking, in 1995 we introduced the Family camping Program for the interested families. Similarly, once again we are conducting the National Family Adventure Camping program in Srinagar (Jammu and Kashmir) Note:-These programs are exclusively for YHAI members. Membership is also available at Base Camp/Online/State Branch/Units of YHAI. YHAI programmes are not subsidized by the Government or any donors. *Location : Srinagar, Kashmir Kashmir is the northwestern region of the Indian subcontinent. Youth Hostel Association of India invites you to Discover and Explore the Ultimate Paradise on Earth, Cradled in the lap of majestic mountains of the Himalayas, Kashmir is the most beautiful place/valley on earth. One of the Mughal Emperor Jehangir has expressed Kashmir while visiting to this paradise as under *"If there is paradise anywhere on earth, it is here, it is here, it is here." *Flora and Fauna Kashmir valley comprises about more than 3000 species of trees and plants. The plants of the western-side are well known for their medicinal properties it is a storehouse of medicinal and aromatic plants, which are used in pharmaceutical and perfume industries as raw material. It includes 55 species of important medicinal and aromatic plants. The fauna of Kashmir is diverse due to its unique location and climatic conditions. About 16% of the countries mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians and butterflies are present in this valley. Kashmir valley is home of about 75-species of mammals, besides several sub-species, belonging to 54 genera, 21 families and 8 orders. Hangul and Snow Leopard that surviving there from times unknown. We can see many more fascinating and exquisite forms of life in many national-parks and sanctuaries that are present in the valley *Special Gifts : Dry fruits, Saffron, Handicrafts, Apple, Pashmeena etc. *Reporting Dates: 01st,06th,11th,16th,21st,26th of May, 2017 *Strength : 20 Families in each group * Duration: 4N/5D Fee 5000 (on 5th day participants will have to check out only after breakfast) *Reporting Point : Harwan Srinagar Our base camp is located very close to Harwan garden, which is about 21 kms from Srinagar and 03 kms beyond the Shalimar Garden in Srinagar district of Jammu and Kashmir. Harwan is one of the famous tourist destination . A beautiful canal, fed from a lake just behind the garden, passes through its center. The canal is bordered with blossoming flowerbeds and chinar trees. The main attraction of the Harwan garden of Kashmir, is its natural beauty that is present in plenty. The big lawns, carpeted with green grass, draw people towards this place. It also serves as a take-off point for visiting Dachi Gam Wild life sanctuary. *Altitude of Base Camp : 5600 feet approximately * Program Includes: : Simple vegetarian meals , Sharing accommodation. (Participants will have to pay for transportation while visiting different places) * Day Wise schedule: #Day 01: Report at Harwan Basecamp, Srinagar #Day 02: Visit to Pahalgam/Sonamarg Pahalgam is around 90 Kilometers from base camp and situated at an altitude of 7500 feet from sea level. The Lidder River running through it makes it even more picturesque. The best attractions of pahalgam are Betab Valley, Baisaran Valley ,Aru Valey, Zoo, Amusement park, Trout Fishing, Jamia Masjid, Mamal Temple, River Rafting etc. Sonamarg is an alpine valley , situated at the bank of Nallah Sindh, 87 km north-east from Srinagar, it is a popular tourist destination, nestled with in the imposing Himalayan peaks. It lies at an altitude of 9000 feet above sea level. The best attraction of sonamarg is Thajivas Glacier #Day 03: Visit to Gulmarg Gulmarg lies in a cup shaped valley in the Pir Panjal Range of the Himalayas, at an altitude of 9000 feet from sea level and around 70 km from base camp. The beautiful valley of gulmarg is famous for many attractions one of the best fascinating thing is World’s highest Car Cable Corporation (Gandola) which offers the interested tourists a wonderful view of kashmir valley at an altitude of 14200ft. #Day 04: Local Sight Seeing and Shopping Participants will be offered many places to visit like Dal Lake, Shikara Ride in Dal Lake, Nishat Garden, Shalimar Garden, Hazratbal, Chashmashahi, Tulip Garden, Pari Mahal etc. Final destinations will be decided on the spot as per demand and situation. #Day 05: Checkout after breakfast * Who can Participate: 1. Any YHAI member can participate on first come first serve basis. 2. A family consists of husband, wife and two children up to the age of 12 years. Copy of Birth certificate for the children between ages 10 to 12 years must be attached with application forms or must be submitted at the time of reporting at the Base Camp. Photographs of the Family Head must be attached on the forms. 3. A single person does not constitute a family and shall not be registered for the camp. Parent of very small children should arrange for their bottle feed. 4. Photo ID Proof of the head of the family should be attached with the application form, to be produced at the time of reporting at the base camp. 5. For children above 12 years of age, Rs.1000/- per person will be charged, over & above. 6. Husband & Wife's membership is mandatory. * How to Participate: Online Booking: Members desirous of joining this programme may apply online by paying requisite program fee along with online booking amount i.e. Rs.5250/- (Rs.5000/- Program Fee and Rs.250/- Online Booking charges) per Family including Husband, Wife and 2 Children upto age of 12 years. We accept Net Banking, Debit Card and Credit Card payment on www.yhaindia.org for online payments. After successful transaction Admit Card will be generated. Participant has to carry "Admit Card", "Trekking Medical Certificate" & "Membership Card"(Print out of membership card may also be accepted) at the time of reporting to the Base Camp. Offline Booking: Members desirous of joining this programme may also apply on the prescribed "Trekking Registration Form" duly supported by a "Trekking Medical Certificate", along with a DD of requisite amount of Rs.5050/-(Rs.50 postage charges) per Family including Husband, Wife and 2 Children upto age of 12 years.) in favour of “Youth Hostels Association of India” payable at New Delhi. Any unforeseen event / strike or natural calamity/unfit medical condition will not be considered as a cause of cancellation. Refund may be given after the completion of the programme 30 to 50 working days. * Accommodation Facilities: Single tent will be provided to each family * How To Reach: Regular texi services on sharing bases are available from Lal chowk/TRC/Dal Gate, Srinagar to Harwan which takes around 20 minutes. Srinagar is connected to Jammu by road (300 km) which takes less than 08 hours and regular bus and texi service (Day and Night) is available From Jummu bus stand. Nearest Railway Station is Jammu Tawi (JAT) and nearest Airport is Srinagar (SXR) NOTE: There is no prepaid mobile service availability at in Kashmir region, only postpaid services are functional. * What participants should along: Woolens, cotton clothes, raincoat, cold cream/Vaseline, personal first aid kit, towel, bed sheets, lunch box (for packed lunch) and medicines that you normally use at home * Photography Competition: After the completion of each trekking expedition, a photography competition will be held for which attractive cash prizes and certificates will be awarded. You may also send your entries in the form of colored slides or prints on the following subjects: Nature-birds, Flowers, Scenic Beauty, Camping and Trekking. The size of the prints should be 8” x 10”. Please give brief details of the location of the subjects and also your name, address and group number on the reverse of the photograph. YHAI has the right to retain/use even the entries which are not selected for awards due to acknowledgement/compensation. Send the photographs on email: email@example.com.
